Daniel Maguire
The founder of Maguire Law Associates, Dan has practiced in Vermont for nearly 30 years. His repertoire of experiences spans superior, district and federal court. Admitted in Vermont and Rhode Island, Dan served as the Chair of the Criminal Law Section for the Vermont Bar Association (VBA) for 9 years, sat as a VBA representative to the New England Bar Association for 5 years and served on the Board of Bar Managers for the VBA for 9 years. His civil trial experience includes several years as an Assistant Attorney General with the State of Vermont. He has been an adjunct faculty member of Woodbury College and Community College of Vermont and was nominated for the VBA Pro Bono Award in 2009. His most recent community support involves appointment to the Community Advisory Board in Essex helping to provide recommendations to improve community policing. He tries cases regularly with positive results and works to ensure his clients are represented with respect.
Dan has successfully advocated for reasonable and beneficial plea deals and worked through countless criminal cases to completion. He has also supported many clients with family court challenges, Termination of Parental Rights proceedings, divorce cases, and with a multitude of other general legal challenges.

ASSOCIATE
Andrew Schmidt
Andrew Schmidt has broad experience practicing family law, criminal defense, and juvenile law throughout the state of Vermont. Andrew has successfully advocated for hundreds of clients going through some of the most challenging times of their lives.
As part of Andrew’s family law practice, he routinely represents clients on matters ranging from highly contested divorces, to modification of parental rights and responsibilities, to parentage actions. Andrew recognizes that the impacts of family law matters extend far past the law found in a statute book. Andrew prides himself in taking the time to sit with clients to fully understand the outcomes they are hoping to achieve from litigation and then works hard to achieve those goals.
Andrew has significant experience representing clients in criminal court. Andrew has successfully defended clients in cases involving allegations of driving under the Influence (DUI), felony drug possession and sale of narcotics, violations of abuse prevention orders, and aggravated domestic and sexual assaults. Andrew has considerable experience litigating suppression and illegal search issues. Andrew believes in the Constitution and zealously advocates to ensure his client’s rights are protected.
Regardless of the size of the case or the scope of the issues, Andrew devotes himself to a just and realistic end result.
